The Special Collections Interest Group (SCIG) has secured a guided tour at the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The tour will be led by the Hall of Fame’s Registrar and Historian. Included in the tour will be historical and archival materials. The cost of $15 includes the guided tour only. Should attendees wish to explore the museum at the Hall of Fame after the tour, an additional fee of $17.95 would be required, payable directly to the Hall of Fame.

Copyright Law Inside Out — A Participant-Driven Workshop

Kevin L. Smith, M.L.S., J.D., Director of Copyright and Scholarly Communications, Duke University – Perkins Library, will lead a session on copyright law. In this half-day workshop, participants will be asked to bring specific, real-life situations, which will be considered in detail through expert analysis and group discussion. The goal is to understand the law better by seeing how it works inside specific contexts, rather than taking an abstract approach “from the outside.”

Cataloging with RDA

Wednesday, June 19
8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Armin Siedlecki, Head of Cataloging, Pitts Theology Library, Emory University, will lead a full-day session on cataloging with RDA, focusing on introducing the major changes that RDA brings to cataloging and on familiarizing catalogers with the use of the RDA toolkit. Training will include hands-on examples and exercises based on materials relevant to catalogers in theological libraries.

Programming for Librarians

8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Matthew Collins, Reference Librarian, Pitts Theology Library, Emory University, will lead a workshop on programming that is appropriate for those with no programming experience. This half-day workshop will introduce participants to the principles and concepts of programming using the Python programming language; learn basic commands, including simple loops, text processing, and file input/output routines; work on a simple example that shows how this might work in a library.
